DISTRICT III COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS
By Julie Hernandez Corado, Band member
Welcome to Our Newest DIll Community Happenings!
We re excited to launch a new section dedicated to sharing updates and activities happening in District III!
We'd like to start by letting everyone know what's been going on in our Dill community:
This summer, we've been busy growing and connecting! We started a community garden, and we're now preparing for the fall harvest. Our beloved apple trees are getting some much-needed care too — we're working to bring them back to life and are looking forward to apple season this fall!
We've also held several fundraisers to support community causes and to assist community members when needs arise. Monthly community meetings have helped us stay connected and plan for future events and initiatives.
Our DIll Elders have been a wonderful part of these gatherings — we've been visiting with them regularly and inviting them to join in our community efforts. Their presence and wisdom are deeply valued.
Another exciting development: we've launched a Dill Community Watch Program in collaboration with our Tribal Police Department liaison. On July 24, we hosted our 1st Annual Community Watch Summer Picnic at Meshkawad — it was a fantastic turnout!
We want to give a chi miigwech to all the community members who came out to support and enjoy the day. There was food, fun, and fellowship - plus prize drawings for fishing poles for both adults and youth!
Special thanks to:
The Tribal Police Department for their presence and support.
Harry Davis for his ongoing dedication to Dill causes.
Chief Executive Virgil Wind for his participation and continuous support of our community.
It was a wonderful day, and we're already looking forward to planning the 2nd Annual Community Watch Summer Picnic next year!
If you're interested in joining the Community Watch team — we'd love to have you! Please contact Julie Hernandez Corado at 320-279-1338 or email juliehc64@gmail.com.
Looking ahead, we're preparing for fall harvesting and will be working to clean and care for our apple trees. If any community members are interested in helping, please join us — let's get these apples growing again! Please contact Julie at the numbers above.
We're grateful for the spirit of togetherness and all the positive energy happening in Dill. Stay tuned for more updates in future DIll Community Happenings!
