The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Legislative Branch plays a vital role in upholding the voice, governance, and traditions of the Band. At the heart of this work are dedicated individuals who ensure that the processes of government remain organized, transparent, and accessible to Band members. Among these committed professionals is Danni Harkness, who serves as Assistant Band Assembly Clerk.
Danni brings with her a strong foundation of experience and dedication to Band service. She began her career with the Band in 2008 in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) after earning her GED in July 2012. Over the years, she has held a variety of roles, including her previous position as a Minor Trust Accountant, and has gained valuable experience— particularly through her work in the per capita office. This diverse background has helped shape her understanding of Band operations and strengthened her commitment to serving the community.
In her current role, Danni supports the day-to-day operations of the Legislative Branch by helping coordinate Assembly meetings, maintaining official records, and ensuring that legislative documents are accurately prepared and preserved. She looks forward to building strong relationships with her new team and gaining valuable experience as she assists and supports the parliamentarian for the Band Assembly. Her work helps create a clear and reliable record of decisions that shape the future of the Mille Lacs Band, strengthening communication between leadership and the community.
Danni brings a thoughtful and open-minded approach to her work. While she may not claim any unique talents, she values learning new things and embracing new opportunities for growth-qualities that serve her well in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Outside of work, Danni's life is full and lively. She is originally from Onamia, Minnesota, and has been married to her husband, Elliot, for 16 years. Together, they have three children-Blaze, Avryn, and Cylah—who are at the center of her world. She is also a devoted animal lover, with a home full of pets including multiple cats, three dogs, two bearded dragons, and even a fish.
In her free time, Danni enjoys cozy TV time, scrolling TikTok, listening to music that fits her mood, and spending quality time with her family. These moments help her stay grounded and connected outside of her professional responsibilities.
The Mille Lacs Band is proud to welcome Danni Harkness into her role as Assistant Band Assembly Clerk. Her dedication, experience, and commitment to service make her a valuable addition to the Legislative Branch, and her work will continue to support strong governance for the Band membership.
