JOIN THE DISTRICT III COMMUNITY WATCH TEAM
By Julie Hernandez-Corado, District Ill Community Member
The summer has come and gone, and what a wonderful season its been for our District Ill community! We ve had so many great activities and gatherings over the past couple of months, and it's been beautiful to see everyone come together.
Our DIll Community Watch Team hosted smudge walks in both Hinckley and Aazhoomog (Ashumoog). Aazhoomog is the corrected way to say the name, as shared by our respected Elders — I just recently learned that myself. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and we truly appreciate all the support from our Dill Representative Harry Davis, our Tribal Police Department, Chief Executive Virgil Wind, and all the community members who joined us.
We also had a great fall harvest! Many of us shared fresh vegetables and apples from our Dill orchards. A big Miigwech to our NR team for helping us bring the orchards back to life. Looking ahead, we have exciting community garden plans for spring 2026 and hope to see even more community involvement.
Our new Women's Support Circle has also started meeting on Monday evenings from 5 - 6 p.m. All women in our community are welcome to join. It's a circle of togetherness-sharing, learning, and supporting one another while enjoying a light snack. We've even started learning Ojibwe words together each week! If any women need a ride to attend, please reach out and we'll make sure you can join us.
There's always something positive happening in Dill! Our Community Watch Team meets monthly in Aazhoomog at 4 p.m. Our December meeting will be December 10, 2025 at 4 p.m. at the Ashumoog Community Center — everyone is welcome to join us. Watch for news announcements for some fun winter activities and a Food Drive for DIll community members in need.
We'll also be holding a Winter Clothing Drive, with drop boxes located in both Meshakwad and Aazhoomog. Please watch for upcoming flyers with more details. Donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to community members in need.
