BAND ASSEMBLY CLOSES 2026 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
October 2, 2026
Regular session calendar helps ensure contracts, appropriations and other matters receive timely consideration
The Mille Lacs Band Assembly has adjourned the 2026 legislative session on Sept. 30, concluding the second of two regular legislative sessions held each year.
Under the Band's legislative calendar, the first regular session begins on the second Tuesday in January and continues through the last week of April. The second begins during the second week of July and continues through Sept. 30.
In advance of the end of the current session, Parliamentarian Danielle Smith reminded Band departments that contracts, appropriations requests, and other matters requiring Band Assembly action must be submitted early enough to allow time for consideration before adjournment. The deadline for the current session was Sept. 21.
Following established submission deadlines helps ensure contracts, spending requests and other matters receive full and timely consideration during regular sessions.
The schedule also helps reduce the need to convene special sessions. Outside of its two regular legislative sessions, Band Assembly may meet when exigent circumstances require a special session.
Limiting the need for special sessions allows Band Assembly members to concentrate on legislative priorities during the regular session while providing more time outside of session to engage with Band members and their communities.
Departments planning contracts, appropriations or other matters that require legislative action should keep the regular Band Assembly calendar in mind when preparing future requests.
