TRIBAL LEADERS MEET WITH STATE OFFICIALS AT GRAND PORTAGE

October 2, 2026

The Minnesota Indian Affairs Council met Sept. 23 - 24 at Grand Portage, bringing Tribal leaders together with representatives from the Governor's Office, state commissioners, deputy commissioners and Tribal liaisons. State agencies provided updates on policies, data and other issues affecting Indian Country, as well as preparations for the transition to new state leadership following the Nov. 3 election.

Minnesota Statutes, section 10.65, requires state agencies to engage in government-to-government consultation with Tribal Nations on matters that have Tribal implications.

Chief Executive Virgil Wind along with staff from the Executive Office and Government Affairs attended the meeting.
