A home is more than a roof overhead. It's a place of comfort, security and memories built over a lifetime. To help Elders continue living safely and comfortably in their homes, the Mille Lacs Band offers an Elder Home Renovation Program that provides up to $75,000 in assistance for needed repairs and improvements. Administered through the Community Development Department, the program is available to qualifying Band members age 55 and older who own their homes.

The $75,000 benefit may be used for one major renovation project or applied toward multiple smaller projects over time. Eligible expenses include Housing Maintenance work orders, appliance replacements, emergency repairs and other renovation projects completed through Community Development.

WHO QUALIFIES?

To qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be an enrolled Mille Lacs Band member age 55 or older.

• Have an ownership interest in the home.

• Use the home as their primary residence.

• Live within the program's designated service area.

• Sign a five-year retention agreement.

The program serves eligible homeowners throughout Minnesota, Burnett County, Wisconsin, and designated portions of Polk, Barron, Washburn, Sawyer and Douglas counties in Wisconsin.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

Eligible Elders may receive up to $75,000 in renovation assistance, either through a single project or through the accumulated cost of eligible repairs and improvements.

All renovations are contracted and managed by Mille Lacs Band Project Management.

There is a waiting list for the program, and all non-emergency renovation work is subject to that waiting list.

Elders who believe they may quality are encouraged to contact the Community Development Department to learn more about eligibility, the waiting list and how to begin the process.
